Independence Day

Happy Birthday, America!

We began the day with a children's parade in our sister and brother-in-law's neighborhood. A nearby fire station brings a truck and several firemen each year. They lead a short parade followed by children who have decorated themselves and their bikes and strollers in red, white, and blue. When the parade is finished, the firemen hook a hose up to a fire hydrant and help the children spray. Other children dance in the spray.

After the festivities, we headed back to the S. family house for lunch and playtime. The 11 cousins played well together and we had birthday cake for Jeremy and his sister, who are turning 33 and 30. At naptime, we headed home and stayed home for the rest of the day. We had a small fireworks show in the driveway for our children, but the real treat came after bedtime when we were able to watch through the upper north window. I'm not sure who was setting them off; we could hear the city's show to the west, so it wasn't that. The fireworks were beautiful, though, and the kids stayed up much too late enjoying them. What a show!

No, your eyes do not deceive you. Our brother-in-law (the avid, talented biker) is giving his daugher a shoulder ride on the bike. The bike is Tomac brand, which he designed and produces.
